Navigation: You can get there from here.

The flowchart is the map, and the navigation is the landmarks. Remember the shortest path between two points is usually a straight line.

This has a lot to do with other design issues, but remember to provide a consistent navigatonal icon scheme for the user. Consistent icons and components such as navigation bars will make it easier for students to become familiar with your system.

A menu that appears consistently in the same location works well. Don't throw them a curve!

What to look for:

  • Are the controls/icons intuitively meaningful?
  • Can learners understand their function?
  • Is the icon labelled for added measure?
  • Do users have complete control- can they exit or go where they want?
  • Do the controls take users where they would EXPECT to go?
