Multimedia review: are you ready?

The whole point of Director is to allow you optimal control over multiple mediums. But multimedia for multimedia's sake is not justifiable. There needs to be a reason and purpose behind your choices and integration of thes mediums for multimedia to be considered a medium in and of itself.

Multimedia, in terms of the web, was not a reality until about 1995. Bandwidth concerns still limit the usage of multiple mediums being presented concurrently online. Vast strides have been made however and the web is becoming ever more rich in content. Much of the allure of multimedia on the web is overhyped to be sure. Keeping your project void of arbitrary bells and whistles is the way to go- only use rich media to create an experience you cannot achieve in simpler terms. Remember your end user here- if multimedia content bogs their machines down or causes access problem, you have defeated the prime directive of multimedia development- never let the technology drive your message!
