There should
also be demonstrations by our folks who are craftspeople to show
the method of creation of their work. Rather than finding processes
guarded as "secret recipes", people who love to come
to get ideas for their own implementation could be accommodated.
Crafts would be primarily displayed for this purpose. I would
recommend that the sale of items would be at the participant's
discretion. I also suggest that we do not characterize this as
a sale in the promotional materials. It has come to my attention
that there are already numerous offerings in our community that
are arts and crafts oriented. I would like to see our event focused
more toward activities that young children would look forward
to participating in with their families. Many crafts festivals
lend themselves to shoppers in search of gifts, and the monetary
aspect of selling crafts would seem to me to be an impediment
to drawing many of the folks we are trying to reach. Demonstrations
of crafts would be particularly interesting to people of all
ages. This is a prime time for an event of this nature. There
are secular offerings in April, May and June, but nothing as
far as I can tell in July with which to compete. A one day event
is also advantageous from a logistical and organizational standpoint. |
