The main function of God's creation is simply to glorify Him. If we perform no other function in this life than that, we truly find our purpose and reason for being. When it comes to the arts as creative endeavor, there is a wide range of feeling as to their value. To many in the body, art needs some sort of justification. On one hand, music has held a place of high esteem in the church, and rightfully so. Yet while everyone values Bach, others do not value praise and worship choruses. Historically speaking, other forms of creative endeavor such as dance, drama, and the visual arts have had their place in the church. Because the world has corrupted these art forms, the church has retreated to safer ground in many instances. I believe it is paramount for Jesus to be Lord over all realms of creativity, the arts as well as the crafts, and that Christians must reclaim their forgotten heritage in these arenas. For this to happen, it must be accomplished on a grassroots basis. | |
