Christian theology affirms the existence of an intelligent, personal, all powerful, loving and just God who created an intelligible universe. "In the beginning, God" is the foundation for all of life, and meaning itself.
Theology is the study of God. From the Christian worldview, the primary way we know anything about God is by special revelation- that is what God has revealed to us about Himself. Anything God tells us about Himself is trustworthy and true. The only way we finite creatures could know God in a true way was for him to initiate communication. We have that record in the Holy Bible.
God not only exists, He is by nature a creative God. The Bible tells the Christian that God created the universe. The Christian therefore sees purpose and design in the universe, from the smallest quark to the greatest expanse of space. God holds the universe together with His Word Colossians 1. John 1:1-3 tells us about this Word, or LOGOS.
Chance cannot explain the order and mathematical precision of the universe. Principles of order, natural laws, DNA and intelligence itself could not have happened by chance, random accidents, or mindless mutations. The Christian worldview posits an intelligent designer behind such a grand design.
God reveals Himself to all men in nature- the heavens declare His glory- since there is something out there, it couldn't have come from NOTHING. However, since from the Bible we know that with the fall of man, even nature was affected, special revelation is needed for us to come to know God correctly and personally. The fact that God is personal is the reason personality can exist in the universe. The Bible says that man was created to commune with this personal creator.
God is not only a creator and personal, but he is Holy. He is the source of moral perfection. He is the source of all Truth. The fall of man is the event where man first refused to believe and obey this Holy and righteous God. This event actually changed man's personal relationship to God. Where man once had free and open access to this Holy and Righteous God, now he was ruined. With that ruination came the ruination of the relationship God had created man to enjoy. This is why every man who is born fails to live in right relationship to God.
This Holy and Just God must hold his creatures accountable for sin- sin cannot enter His presence. If God is Creator, we are responsible to Him for our very life. Indeed, our life is a stewardship itself. God is the just judge of the sin that men embrace, but he is also the Just justifier, the Bible tells us. In love, God satisfied the demands of both His Holy and His Just nature at the same time when He took on the penalty for the sin of man and restored a way to come back into right relationship with Him.
So the Christian proclaims from the authority of scripture that this intelligent designer who created the universe took on the nature of man when he was incarnated in Jesus Christ. and died for our sins. The God of Christianity has both a mind and a heart- He not only created the world and every individual in it personally. As creations of a personal- infinite creator, we all are accountable to Him. He loved it so much that He came to die for it. (John 3:16). God loved the world so much that he sent His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but has everlasting life.
