October 10, 2005 trip cut short

Got a call Thursday AM that Ma Smith had a bad hemhorrage and was in the emergency room- she finally got int a room around 3 PM and the docs stabilized her. I hear they were condescending and plaintive in the ER. Once admitted things changed and by the time we got there the next day she looked pretty good. She will be undergoing tests today. Please pray!

Strange but True

Got to see my Mom and she told me about a friend who shall remain unnamed. I get a kick listening to these stories, and you might enjoy it too: Mom was at a get together for her 51st class reunion- not a big deal but at this age they meet every year.At the end of the meal there were some announcements and a short program and then the moderator asked if anyone else had anything to say.

Mom's friend got up and slowly drawled, "Well on January first Mikey died (her husband). I burrried (sp) him and a week later I broke my left arm" At this, she started chuckling a bit. "A week after that, I fell at church and broke my right arm." At this point the rest of the class started to laugh a bit with her. "As soon as they healed and I was able to drive, Bunny Bread run over me and totaled my car. This has been some year!" Another class mate piped up and asked "You mean the whole loaf?" by this time everyone was laughing uproariously, and another class mate said- "Well I think youi just need to stay in the house and lock the door!" Still laughing , she stood back up again and through the laugher said- "Oh I forgot! I just burried Mama too!"

Hope I have such a sense of humor as I face the future...

Meditations from the road.

Live to Tell

God of Mercy, God of Grace
Humbly now we seek your face
God of glory, god of Might
Justify and make us right
So we walk by faith and not by sight.

God of Wisdom, God of Power,
O’er the Eternal, and each hour
God of hallowed holiness
Of restoration and righteousness
The glory of your name we all confess.

Worthy are you oh Lord our God
To receive honor power and might
Worthy the lamb who was slain
To open the scroll and set things right.

Beyond time you see the beginning and the end
Beyond our minds on your revelation we depend
Beyond this place, in all your people now you dwell
Beyond space, you transcend heaven, death and hell
We will never comprehend
Your glory without end
But of your Glory we will live to tell.

God of Love and God of Light
God most precious in our sight
God of Goodness God of Fame
We bow our knee and bless your name
You Who are from age to age the same.

Beyond time you see the beginning and the end
Beyond our minds on your revelation we depend
Beyond this place, in all your people now you dwell
Beyond space, you transcend heaven, death and hell
We will never comprehend
Your glory without end
But of your Glory we will live to tell.

Rock My Soul

They say the devil is in the details
But my sovereign God prevails
My God is So---------in control
Mighty Jesus rocks my soul.

When I am weary and when I weep
When I am worried and cannot sleep
He will be my holy goal
Mighty Jesus rocks my soul

He is my caring comforter
My refuge is His embrace
I'll curl up in His tender arms
And see the smile upon His face.

Like a child in the dark night
I awaken with a fearful fright
When the darkness takes its toll
Mighty Jesus rocks my soul.

I'll look up as I journey dust to dust No such thing as luck in which to trust
My God is so------in control
Mighty Jesus rocks my soul.

When I can find no place to rest
In his arms I'm held and blessed
My God is So---------in control
Mighty Jesus, rocks my soul.
Mighty Jesus, rocks my soul.
Mighty Jesus, rocks my soul.

Oh Spirit

Oh Spirit reveal
Oh Spirit inspire
The Word of our Christ
Word of holy fire.
Oh Spirit empow’r
The word we proclaim
The Gospel of Christ
Glorify His name.
Oh Spirit move us
That name to confess
The name of the Christ
Our true righteousness.
Oh Spirit renew
And make us behold
The beauty of Christ
Desire of our soul
Oh Spirit lead us
All our hope to place
Our faith in the Christ
Our trust in His grace.
Oh Spirit now work
To conform us unto
The image of Christ
And our minds renew.

Working title: Waiting for Elijah (this one needs some work)

I’m waiting for Elijah waiting for his day to come
Waiting for Elijah to prepare the way for the returning Son
Waiting for Elijah, waiting for that glorious day.
Waiting to hear him cry “prepare the way”
So I’m waiting for Elijah
For the day of the Lord that prophet will declare
I’m waiting for Elijah
For he’s given us a long time to prepare.
Enoch spent his days in worship and in praise
He walked with his Lord until one day he was not to be found
Moses saw God’s face and his visage was ablaze.
He spoke for God until he was buried in holy ground
Yeah But I’m waiting for Elijah
For the day of the Lord that prophet will declare
We’ll hear that trumpet sound
The church will be heaven bound
To meet the returning King in the air.
And Elijah did all the Lord required
He left this earth in a blazing chariot of fire
So I’m waiting for Elijah
He’s been gone so very long but he’s going to return
To declare the soon and coming king
And with His kingdom He will bring
A mighty crown to bless and a fire to burn.

Love to the Nations

This is our Vision:
Lord, conform our condition
To the glory of God
This is our mission.
In our demonstration
And our declaration
For the joy of all peoples
We ’ll proclaim to the nations
Love to the nations
From the Father’s own heart
To go to our world
And to its uttermost part
For this is love’s labor
To go to our neighbor
And in our own place we shall start.

By our words and our deeds
We plant gospel seeds
The way that the word of God tells
And so we glorify
And so we magnify
The one in whom all glory dwells!
As we bend the knee and confess we shall see
Men give glory to our Father above
As we obey in all we do and all we say
We show the world God’s light and God’s Love.
Love to the nations
From the Father’s own heart
To go to our worlds
And to its uttermost part
For this is love’s labor
To go to our neighbor
And in our own place we shall start.

Fit Us For Heaven

This life is a moment in a tumultuous time
A rehearsal for heaven where we dress for the divine
By the time you learn to live it aright
If you’re blessed you’ll have time to live with delight

Put off the old and put on the new
Dress like the person God’s making you into.
In robes of the righteous, garments of praise
Clothed in the radiance glory displays.

We would walk worthy
We would walk worthy
We would walk worthy
We would walk worthy

Fit us for heaven ready to be shown
Fit to be seen at you glorious throne
Where we present ourselves as righteous ones
To be used of God and to hear ‘Well done”

Put to death the old man’s wicked ways
And put on the new man who glory displays
Look to the cross where your sin breathed its last
For crucified with Christ He will conquer our past!

Fit us for heaven ready to be shown
Fit to be seen at you glorious throne
As we present ourselves as righteous ones
To be used of God and to hear ‘Well done”
