September 12, 2005 We Remember as we Survey the Damage

We spent a day at church today remembering the fallen and praying for and planning for adopting a church in need. I am looking forward to what more we can do.

Meditations from the Road- I continue to meditate daily on Psalm 1, Psalm 19 and 2 Timothy 3-4. The results will manifest a sermon by October 2, since I have been asked to preach at Bethel in the PM service that day.

Living Word of Fire

Your Word is like a fire
With your blazing hammer the rock is shattered.
The wooden people will be consumed
And the darkness will be scattered.

Like a fire in my heart, like a fire in my bones
Living and active I must make it known
God’s word runs like a raging fire
It will not return empty it will accomplish God’s desire

He wraps himself in His own zeal
He’ll cauterize our wounds to heal
The deep diseases of our soul
As he breaks us he makes us whole.

So preach the Word unto our minds
Preach the word and the word finds
A place to make its stand and change
The mind to whom it is made plain

Preach the word unto our hearts
See the change the truth imparts
And so to heart and mind to reach
The Word of God still burns and so we preach!

Savor the Savior

This is the essence of worship
And this is worship done right
To understand the Lord our God
And then in the Lord to delight!

God glorifies himself to man
And scatters the darkness that blinds
By speaking he sets our hearts ablaze
After breaking like the dawn on our minds!

We would savor the Savior and in Him delight
Take pleasure in our treasure and bask in His light
To worship in wonder, walk by faith and not by sight
If we savor the savior we worship aright!

We would see Christ and Christ alone
Take the truth for all that it means
We taste and see then make Him known
And seeing delight in all that we’ve seen!

Hope and be glad as you contemplate
As we think and ponder and meditate
So rejoice and fear, delight and mourn
Renew our minds and faith is reborn!

The Call

I must recall my calling through the dangers toils and snares
The grace that wrought this circumstance will my way prepare
And though my path won’t always be straight and smooth and clear
That grace that brings forth wisdom will conquer every fear.

I’ll reckon true the vision that grace in me obtained
His promise is my portion and his promise shall sustain
You call me out and call me in- you call me Lord, to flee from Sin
You call me now to paths unknown.
You call me to stand faultless before your throne

I will remember one by one your affirmations sweet
When darkness falls upon my eye your light will guide my feet
And though the challenges are great and the changes are unknown
"’Tis grace hath kept me safe thus far and grace shall lead me home!"

So as I recall my calling your grace shall make me strong
You keep me Lord, from falling and your word is never wrong
I’ll walk by faith and not by sight In the pathway of the Just
Take me on the risky journey beyond Love and into Trust!

I’ll reckon true the vision that grace in me obtained
His promise is my portion and his promise shall sustain
You call me out and call me in you call me Lord to flee from Sin
You call me now to paths unknown.
You call me to stand faultless before your throne

Who Have I?

Who have I in heaven but You?
Besides you there is nothing on Earth I desire
God is the strength of my heart
My portion forever and all I require!

Who have I in heaven but You?
To whom else shall we go?
Who else has the word of Life so true
That we all need to know?

Those who are far from you will surely die
All the unfaithful you destroy
The nearness of my God is my good
So near to you I will draw in great joy!

I have made the Lord God my refuge
That I may all your works declare
I have made the Lord God my refuge
And I will linger there.

I have made the Lord God my refuge
I rest there in His care
And now from my refuge
His love I shall declare!

Glorious Unknown

I do not know- I cannot see
The path that lies in front of me
But on the way your light has shown
I will follow unto the glorious unknown

The way is bright for You are there
Your glorious presence makes me dare
To walk by faith and not by sight
I close my eyes and walk in the light

This is a place unknown to me
This is the place you set me free
You take me to this glorious place
On a course you marked out called the race
The glorious unknown, this place of grace!

I cannot look upon the sight
With eyes unguarded from the light
But I may follow your command
Before your throne of grace to stand

For in the glorious unknown
Is the place your grace has shown
So I will trust in you alone
And seek the glorious unknown!

Your Glory Display

Lord you stay on my mind- I want to spend the time
It takes to know you- Lord I want to show you!

How I love you Lord in more than words and deeds
I cast myself upon you for this is my greatest need

And Lord none can replace your Holy embrace
As in your arms I rest
If I have your grace as I run this race
I’ll know that I am blessed
I won’t give up the chase till I see your Face
So Lord help me pass each test
Lord I don’t want just what is good I want your very best
So till I’m in your presence, Lord renew me in my quest!

Lord give me wisdom for the day, help me to discern I pray
Between the good and better way- Lord Your glory I would display!

Oh Lord, help me to make the right choice
Oh Lord, help me to still my complaining voice,
Oh Lord, help me forever to rejoice
Help me obey- your glory to display!

For Glory displayed is glory revealed
So light up the world and see the world healed!

Deliberate Delight

I will keep my eyes on you, I will lift my gaze
I will walk your risky road where you still amaze
On this road I am glory bound
What I have sought here is what I have found

Every little side road where I could go astray
So many damned distractions I have bought along the way.
At times from Satan’s snares I have grabbed His bait
But you said you’d renew me Lord if on you I would wait

Patience is no my long suit-Trust is not my strength
But you will keep me anyway and you’ll get me home at length
In your Word there is a beacon and your word it is a light
The thing I’m really seeking is deliberate delight

There is no higher joy and there is no greater prize
So I’ll pleasure in your treasure and I won’t avert my eyes!
So through the trials and pain I will see k your gain
I’ll long to be where you are forever to remain

And on this path where I am bound
I will seek you where you may be found
I will draw unto you and you will draw near
Forsaking all, the cost is clear!

In your Word there is a beacon and your word it is a light
The thing I’m really seeking is deliberate delight
There is no higher joy and there is no greater prize
So I’ll pleasure in your treasure and I won’t avert my eyes!

Not Silent

The heavens are declaring the glory of God on High
His handiwork is baring His glories in the sky
His mercies speak forth, unto all the earth
And the heavenly hosts reply
They call out to their creator bearing witness to every eye

He is not silent, and he still speaks
Loudly and clearly in mountain peaks
In fields and streams and sky
And though you may not comprehend,
The silent witness is your friend.
Every man must answer why.
I see the seasons wearing
A coat of colors they’re known by!

By God’s self-revelation each man’s without excuse
It’s established a relation so every thing is God-infused
In His works we delight when we see with new sight And we fall in Holy fear
He speaks through all creation if we hear with listening ear.
If his light we do not refuse
He speaks through all creation in ever changing hues.

Day unto day and night unto night His handiworks all show
There is not speech or language yet every man shall know
Into all the Earth to declare His true worth their lines shall ever go
It’s God’s true revelation unto every heart bestowed.

He is not silent, and he still speaks
Loudly and clearly in mountain peaks
In fields and streams and sky
And though you may not comprehend,
The silent witness is your friend.
Every man must answer why.
I see the seasons wearing
A coat of colors they’re known by

New Man

Give me a clean heart and a clear mind
And so my life you shall renew.
Give me a contrite spirit and a servant soul
Make me fit for all You'd have me to do!

Give me a pure mouth and a bright eye
So I might tell all those I see
Give me a strong hand and a ready ear
So I might help the least of these.

For all that you've given has purpose
I's all according to plan
So I'll put off the old ways,
The flesh and its snares
This is how we become the new man!

Give me a deep love and a steadfast joy
To glorify You better still,
Give me a sure walk and a righteous peace
So I can do Your will,

So I can do Your will
So I can do Your will!

You Require Mercy

A battered reed will be restored
Though crushed and abused
Jesus mends the broken
He restores the bruised.

You require mercy
You desire for us to love
Justice and compassion,
And You will be enough
To make your more sure word our guide.
Abide in us as we abide,
Dwell within us here inside.
Now tabernacle in our hearts as you do above.

The smold'ring wick he will not quench
He will fan into flame it's ember
Till the fiery holocaust of faith
Engulfs us as we remember.

You require mercy
You desire for us to love
Justice and compassion,
And You will be enough
To make your more sure word our guide.
Abide in us as we abide,
Dwell within us here inside.
Now tabernacle in our hearts as you do above.

I Want to Be a Willow

I want to be a willow that bends and does not break
For winds shall come against me to give more than I can take
I want to rise up straight and strong to stand for the Lord’s sake
I want to be a willow by the stream
I want to be a willow to send my roots deep down below
To seek the living water where it may be found to flow
I want to drink there deeply ‘til I’m quenched and I will grow
I want to be a willow by the stream
For the willows roots are searching and the willow’s branch is strong
And a willow grows so quickly if it grows where it belongs
And my leaves they will not wither and I’ll reach up to the sky
And there’ll be a shady refuge as my branches grow so high

The water I’ll take in will form a healthy fruitful branch
My leaves will thrive with life and my limbs will seem to dance
I will weep when it is worth it but I’ll never change my stance.
I want to be a willow by the stream.
May my roots stop the erosion of my planting place
Keep me anchored in the more sure ground no matter what I face
May my branches reach out to the world and the winds of life embrace
I want to be a willow by the stream.
For the willows roots are searching and the willow’s branch is strong
And a willow grows so quickly if it grows where it belongs
And my leaves they will not wither and I’ll reach up to the sky
And there’ll be a shady refuge as my branches grow so high

Our Reward

Oh skies declare God’s worth
Oh shout it o’er the earth
In our conscience all creation sheds its light.
So we must seek the news
We are without excuse
He rewards those who seek Him with a glorious sight.

The world points to all we need to make us wise
The Word reveals the unseen to our eyes.
So reject those who suppress the Truth with lies
Christ rewards the one who seeks to win the prize.

The invisible’s revealed
To the heart that will yield
Who believe and receive the source of light
The myth that became True
Is offered now to you
Once in time and space before our very sight.

This world still shows us truth in common grace
Until we would seek the creator’s face
Those who seek him will have Him as their reward
The great desires of our heart are fulfilled in the Lord.

More than Bread

You have exalted you word above your Name
And I hunger to read its every line
It speaks of the One eternal- from age to age the same
And I trust to search out its divine design.
The Law of the Lord is perfect reviving the soul
His statutes are trustworthy and make the simple wise
The precepts of the Lord give the heart joy untold.
His commands are radiant enlightening the eyes
I will seek you in your Word
I will tune my heart so it can be heard
And when I’ve read all that you’ve said
I ‘ll have devoured much more than bread.
So reveal yourself in ways so clear
I’ll find it’s wealth and hold it dear
Now I’ll hear the words you’d have me hear
All found in your word alone.
Ever fresh ever fragrant, ever sweet and new
Ever good and glorious your word tells me what is true.
Your word cuts like a two edged sword
Dividing between marrow and bone
Your word must never be ignored
Through it the Lord God is made known.
The fear of the Lord is pure enduring forever
It is sweeter by far than any honeycomb
His ordinances are sure and righteous altogether.
More to be desired than all the gold you could own.
