July 3, 2006 A hot day and a cool place...

We returned to a church where we heard a good expository message a couple of weeks ago. We were not disappointed. I haven't found it warranted to take many notes on sermons i ahve heard lately but this one was an exception. We went back later in the evening and experienced a mixed bag- but all in all it was edifying an God was glorified.

The theme was reitering the theme of their VBS- treasuring Christ. they used a DesiringGod curriculum. this from their website:

We went out in search of Doe Run Inn this weekend and found it after making a wrong turn. We sat by the waterfall area and refreshed our spirits in the shade.
Made me think of the church we went to earlier in the day, whose website declares; "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for you oh God."This creek was named for that very event- by Squire Boone, Daniel's brother...

Temples of Grace

We freely lift our praise
Oh Glory of heaven descend to the earth!
We become temples of grace
As for your sake we declare your true worth

Light of the world set our hearts afire
Shine brighter than gold as our one great desire!

Lord your presence is our treasure
Pour out yourself without measure in this place
You make us instruments of your pleasure
As you abide in your temples of grace.

For your glory, for our good
His purpose in us is understood
Wonderful are your works oh Lord
And we know it very well.
So we will go and we will tell...

Lord your presence is our treasure
Pour out yourself without measure in this place
You make us instruments of your pleasure
As you abide in your temples of grace.

Oh, Capture My Soul

So many bruised reeds are here tonight
So many have been battered in the fight.
So many walking wounded here who worship for your sake
And you will gently bind them up-The bruised reed, you'll not break.

So many smouldering wicks are here tonight.
Their flames are faltering that once burned bright.
The embers you will fan to flame -The floods of life won't drench.
The smouldering wick you will never quench.

Bind up the bruised
Comfort the abused
Trim off the ashen deadness of our life
Heal our hearts
Set us apart
To overcome suffering and strife.
Lord capture my soul
Place under your control
The obedience of faith I want to learn.
Lord capture my soul
Heal and hallow, make it whole
Set this smoldering wick ablaze so I can burn.
Bind up the bruised
Comfort the abused
Trim off the ashen deadness of our life
Heal our hearts
Set us apart
To overcome suffering and strife.
