June 4, 2006 The Call is to Community

We heard a sermon today on 1 Corinthians 9. At least that was what the preacher said. I remember something about tube socks and cursing in South Africa and changing our methods to meet the world where they are. I am all for changing these methodologies that miss the mark, but I believe with all my heart and from many years of observation that it is the more sure Word people need more than methodologies. I guess we'll move in our quest to find an expository preacher.

Our Lord is sovereign and sufficient
His Word is the source of all change
When the madness of methods all pass away
His Word will forever remain…

We watched Michael Card's Scribbling in the Sand DVD

this evening and were blessed. I am praying we will find the kind of community he talked about in this new place we have been called to. Creativity is an important component to community and an aspect that has been sorely lacking in our lives of late. I was watching the video and all of a sudden I had a flash of Déjà vu. Something was strangely familiar. Sure enough as the next scene panned across the audience, there was Earnie and myself listening intently. It made me think of how far we have come in the past 4 years since the concert.

In His Hands

Save us from the terrors of this place.
Hold us firm and fast in your hands of grace
Deliver us from evil and its power
Guard and guide our hearts in this very hour.

For in your hands of mercy is forgiveness, there is peace.
Held fast there as captives who will never seek release
Hold on to our hearts, Lord.
Hold on to our minds
Hold on to our spirits
Keep us within the boundary you've designed.

Snatch us from the comfort of our ways
Cradle our lives in your hands we pray
And we will be held fast forevermore
Secure and safe in the hands of our blessed Lord.

For in your hands of mercy is forgiveness, there is peace.
Held fast there as captives who will never seek release
Hold on to our hearts, Lord.
Hold on to our minds
Hold on to our spirits
Keep us within the boundary you've designed.

He will Be Satisfied

There was nothing in his appearance
That to Him we should be drawn.
And though he came as a King from on high
For love, He became as a pawn.

He was broken and bruised
But he never refused
To drink of the cup of God's wrath.
He lifted that cup
And drank it all up
And he walked to the end of His path.

Nothing short of slaughter
Nothing short of death
Like a lamb you gave up your dying breath
Nothing short of perfect
Nothing short of pure
Could provide an answer that will evermore endure

The result of His suffering He shall see
And he will be satisfied.
He will bear all of our iniquities
And many will be justified.
And He shall be satisfied
He shall be satisfied.
