Description
Alvarez 5052 Jumbo Guitar- J200 Copy 1973
A 1973 pre-lawsuit, vintage Alvarez 5052 jumbo acoustic guitar, with gorgeous cherry sunburst finish. Has the coveted open book headstock and signature mustache bridge and is a copy of the Gibson J-200 (thus the lawsuit). All solid wood, the top is spruce, but unlike the J-200, this guitar's neck, back & sides are made of solid mahogany (not maple), which gives it a deeper, more mellow tone IMO. This guitar sounds fabulous. Great deep rich tones, warmth and nice presence. The original plastic keystone tuners have been replaced with nickel Grovers. The most impressive thing about this beauty is the balanced sound across the spectrum with booming bass and pleasing treble.
This one has a 3/8 inch pickup in
the treble side. Mahogany fret board with pearl inlays
are in good condition. The adjustable saddle is pretty
low but the action is very good. Pearl inlays on the
pick guard are beautiful and have very slight wear at
all. Beautiful Headstock with Alvarez Script logo
in mother of pearl inlay with crown as well is its
original truss rod cover is striking. Vintage nitro
finish shows little to no checking seen on its top -even
perhaps more beautiful than the 70s Gibson from same
era. Comes with a non-original jumbo hard case. |
